Graveyard 01:24
When the first rays of that sun crest the treeline at dawn, I'll be making my way back home. While you were sleeping, lost in dreams, I was working, running my machine. It's not much of a life, but it's a hell of a living... it seems...
2.
I've never worked in a coal mine I've never thumbed my way across a state line I've never sat alone and cried into my beer So how can I tell you what you want to hear I've never been in a bar fight I've never shot a man just to watch him die Can't say I've felt the devil drawing near So how can I tell you what you want to hear But I've slept in my car And I've closed down my fair share of bars I've been laid off and let down, Cheated on and pushed around I've had my share of heartbreak But not more than I could take I've never rode in a boxcar I've never paid my rent by playing my guitar I've never been the kind to live my life in fear So how can I tell you what you want to hear Now I'm down to my last dime So I'll take it home one piece at a time I've been put down and put out I've had my troubles and my doubt I've had my share of heartbreak But that doesn't always make for a good song

High Road 03:52
When you said you're leaving, I said I've heard this one before Cause you've been bent on walking out since you first came through the door And if you're waiting on my answer, you won't like what you'll find Take everything that is yours, but leave behind what's mine I got so sick and tired of always begging you to stay But you know this time around, it's not going to work that way I've been waiting on this moment, it seems for very long A chance for you to break free, and a chance for me to right what I've wronged We've both been playing with fire & you think I'm acting strange You've given me my last scar, and it's time that you get burned for a change
4.
Flock 02:11
The rooster will crow, the sparrow may plead And the blackbird will sing, though it doesn't have the need And I will hum the tune, 'cause I don't know the words As I sit in the wilderness, listening to the choir of birds The vultures will circle, the phoenix rise from flames And the raven will speak, and it sounds just like your name Some of them will call and some of them will sing Some will brave the winter and some of them will fly south till spring And a murder of crows will sit on the lines And the robins take wing and inhabit the pines And they'll all flock together and blacken the sky Until they return home to live and to die
5.
She's a shipwreck in a bottle, she's lightning in a jar She's pulling on the strings to this heart She's the furnace and the fire, the shovel and the coal She's a slow sip of whiskey to my soul She's the Lightning & the thunder, she's the rumble & the quake She's moonlight's mirror image on the lake She's the giver & the taker, the maker & the mold She's a slow sip of whisky to my soul She comes on like a fever, & she leaves just like a dream She's the thread & she's the needle & the seam She can cut just like a razor, but I hang on every word Every breath that I pull into my lungs I breathe for her She's my sail and my anchor, she's the sea and she's the shore She's the part of me that I spent my life looking for Found my needle in the haystack, and I'll never let her go She's a slow sip of whiskey to my soul
6.
Call down that thunder on the low Erie morn We'll sing our way through the danger and kick a hole in the dawn The ships are all sailing on the steam and the wind and the wire Leaving followers flailing on a river still rolling in fire And that river, she's a burning Her kerosine veins through the night The spires are all piercing that sky The black clouds will fill the horizon on the shoreline of waste & debris The ashes will rise in the darkness, but the rain brings it all to it's knees And that river, she's a burning Her kerosine veins through the night The spires are all piercing that sky May the lines on our face tell the story of the waves that we pushed our way through May we all live to wake the next morning and chase that horizon anew
7.
Now that sun is heading west with that whiskey on its breath, While my heart is giving out, but I won't lie down Now your cried are in my ears with that darkness drawing near, And the sky is filled with doubt, but I won't lie down Though my body may fall apart, take my words & take my heart Take the center of my song where I won't lie down Though my road is just for show, where imposters fear to go, Where the roads are made of blood & stone, where I won't lie down Though my body may fall apart, take my words & take my heart Take the center of my song where I won't lie down.

I Am 03:20
I am that noble oak, and I am that mighty pine I am that evening sky, and I am the stars that shine I am that twisted stream, and I am those fallen leaves I'm the sunlight through your window, and I am that summer breeze With my wheel set to spin And my song in the wind I'll be back again I am those rolling plains, and I am those fields of grain I am that barren wall and the picture in the frame I am that endless road, and I am that will to roam I'm taking you away, and I'm bringing you back home With my wheel set to spin And my song in the wind I'll be back again Though I tried to stay around, I couldn't make it long I tried to be the singer, but I ended up the song
9.
All my vices, so saccharine and sweet And all these choices are at the door to greet me When I come home, tired from my day And I beat myself up again, in those familiar ways With the self doubt and the whisky Spend my time up, and my money I don't eat right, I don't sleep well But it's my life, and it's my health In a dimly lit room on a cold & lonely couch I stretch my legs out And I pull the covers up underneath my chin For a few more hours of restless sleep, then do it all again With the time clock, and my work boots In my hard hat and my white suit It's a car crash, it's a trainwreck It's a workweek, it's a paycheck
10.
It feels like we're just holding on It feels like our dreams are gone When bad news comes in waves Time to wave the white flag Lay down and finish the song There's another life on the horizon There's a hope that we'll make it through But there's a fear that we're damned if we don't And we're damned if we do Now we're running on whiskey and fumes We're frozen in time in these rooms We've been buried benath These posessions we keep Till this house has become our tomb Now it's coming down to the wire We do our best with our feet in the fire There's decisions to make Bitter pills left to take And a love that nothing can break There's another life on the horizon There's a hope that we'll make it through But there's a fear that we're damned if we don't And we're damned if we do There's another life on the horizon There's a hope that we'll make it through And fear can be damned, cause we're damn sure What we need to do

about

This album is dedicated to Ruth Ann Loyer and Seann Flynn:
May your legacies continue to be a beacon of inspiration to everyone
who is lucky enough to have known you.

This is my first full-length album. I recorded it myself, in my basement, playing most of the instruments, save for some wonderful contributions from Matt Baumann (WolfCryer), Tim Frey, Bart Summit, Kate Westfall, and Brad Williams (the Oolong Gurus). Orie Rush did the drawings and Don Grossinger mastered the CD. This album would not be possible without the incredible folks that backed my Kickstarter project. Thanks so much, everyone!

These songs were written over the course of a six-year span since I began my bid as a singer-songwriter. They are extremely auto-biographical, and mean a lot to me - hopefully you can find some meaning in them, too. Thank you.
